So just to give you an update on the steering it turns out that the nylon screws were jumping threads and becoming loose so that the wheels were at an angle and rubbing against the chassis of the robot therefore not being able to steer. We also ordered some metal screws that are much stronger than nylon and should hold the wheels on properly and we tested the steering and it has improved drastically.
